Arrowsight helps companies keep their employees and consumers safe through their Remote Video Coaching services. The software engineering team works on tools for both internal employees to do their job and external clients to review their data.

My role as a part of the small frontend engineering team was to research, design, and build out new (and modernize old) features to support the growing client and company needs. We worked in sprints under the Agile methodology to achieve these goals.

An important skillset that I brought to Arrowsight was my understanding of user experience and interface design. I introduced the benefits of user research as our primary users were in-house employees. I was able to conduct user interviews, observation, and review analytics which led to data driven designs, better feature adoption, and a number of insights on where the current work flows were no longer meeting the needs of its users. Additionally, I worked to advocate for a consistent look and feel across products. This led the team to work on a style guide, design system, and modular component library.

With a better understanding of our users and the work they needed to accomplish, my colleagues and I were able to identify when different workflows were appropriate (e.g. progressive disclosure vs staged disclosure) to manage the complexities of tasks. These choices made a big impact for a user base with a wide range of tech savviness and interest in adopting change.

It was really rewarding after releasing new or redesigned features to get positive feedback from our users. The validation of all our research, design and implementation decisions made me feel like I created something that made a difference and made someone’s life just a little bit less frustrating. For that alone, my time with Arrowsight was invaluable.
